The former Clifton Cinema had
been closed for many years when
the project commenced.
Desertoak were the Main Contractor
for its transformation into the
stylish and atmospheric Amber Café
Bar.
The contract period was 26-weeks
and the project was completed on
time, including many variations
and extra works.
The original lower level sloping
floor was completely removed and
a new concrete floor was laid.
Over 250 Tonnes of hardcore was
required, which had to be carried
in a small Dumper, in 1 Tonne bags,
down the rear alleyway and through
a pair of double doors. 200 Tonnes
of concrete was also required for
the new floors and ramps.
A new curved Bar and back fitting
displays’ were fitted, which are
approx 14m long, with a face finished
curved brick wall behind, emulating
the original balcony, which still
remains.

The new Bar segregates the public
area from the extensive Kitchens’,
Servery, Washing Area and Offices,
which were constructed in the old
Stage Area.
The Lounge Area was also curved,
to mirror the existing Balcony and
new Bar. This area was raised from
the Bar Area, in order to offer
a separate Relaxed Seating Area,
complete with new light boxes, which
have been set into the walls.
The original Balcony ceiling
was also re-plastered.
To form the new Entrance, the
entrance floor slab was cut out,
to enable a new Disabled Ramp to
be fitted.
The original stairs were removed
and a new Sliding Glass Door System
was fitted, to open the Bar up in
the warmer weather.
New steelwork was fitted to support
the upper floors and to create a
new thoroughfare between the main
areas.
New ceilings and lighting rafts
were fitted, as well as exposed
ductwork throughout the Bar.
Access was extremely tight with
the front entrance immediately overlooking
Evesham Bus Station, a 2m wide alleyway
to the rear of the building and
a narrow one-way street on the right
hand side.
